About the Role
We are hiring a BackEnd Developer to join our core infrastructure engineering team in Manchester. As a key contributor, you will design, scale, and maintain high-throughput backend services, data pipelines, and distributed systems powering a modern e-commerce enterprise.
You will focus on system reliability, fault-tolerant transaction processing, data architecture, and low-latency API development to support seamless global commerce transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Microservices Engineering: Design, build, and deploy reliable, low-latency microservices using Node.js, Go, or Python.
- Database & Data Pipelines: Architect complex relational and non-relational database schemas, write optimized queries, and manage event-driven data streams (Kafka / RabbitMQ).
- API Architecture: Build and secure RESTful, gRPC, and GraphQL APIs consumed by frontend web applications and mobile clients.
- Cloud & DevOps: Partner with DevOps teams to deploy services on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Security & Reliability: Implement robust authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth2, JWT), data encryption, and automated failover systems.
- Code Quality: Lead technical design discussions, enforce unit/integration testing standards, and mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years of backend software development experience in enterprise or high-scale consumer applications.
- Core Languages: Deep knowledge of backend languages such as Node.js (TypeScript), Python, Go, or Java.
- Databases: Advanced proficiency with PostgreSQL/MySQL, data modeling, indexing, transaction management, and Redis caching strategies.
- Distributed Systems: Experience with event-driven architecture, distributed caching, rate limiting, and queue systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Testing & Tooling: Strong advocate for TDD, automated integration testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Problem Solving: Proven ability to diagnose complex production bugs, optimize database queries, and improve cloud resource utilization.
Desirable Skills
- Background in e-commerce, fin-tech, logistics platforms, or high-concurrency payment gateway handling.
- Experience with Kubernetes orchestration, Terraform, and AWS cloud security best practices.
- Understanding of observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
